Aim: To understand the Microsoft Intune device management lifecycle.
In the Level 100 introductory Intune course we talked about “modern cloud” device management and how these updated methods bear some resemblance to traditional, on-premises management methods.
Note, there are various methods to transition from the traditional, on-premises method of managing devices to the modern, cloud managed method. However, if possible, it is simpler to avoid managing devices in a hybrid configuration and attempting to transpose old methods onto new ones but rather to make a clean start.
All devices that you manage have a lifecycle. Intune can help you manage this lifecycle: from enrolment, through configuration and protection, to retiring the device when it’s no longer required.
- Enrolling a device to Intune entails joining it with Azure Active Directory.
- Intune supports the following operating systems: iOS/iPadOS, Android, Windows, and macOS (*Linux, *Chrome OS)
- Configuring a device from Intune entails deploying scripts, apps and configuration profiles.
- Protecting a device involves keeping the device compliant, which includes ensuring updates are applied and anti-malware tools are active.
- Retiring a device is about making a device ready for the next person to use or clearing your inventory.
- Intune allows you to remote wipe and audit lost or stolen devices.
